Long Island Rail Road crews this Saturday, October 20, will begin work to replace the pedestrian overpass at Gibson Station on the Far Rockaway Branch, a project that will serve customers at this station for decades to come.

Beginning on Friday evening, October 19, and continuing through the evening on Saturday, October 20, LIRR crews will remove the existing Gibson Station pedestrian overpass. This existing structure is primarily supported by wood and is nearing the end of its useful life. The LIRR is replacing it with a new overpass, constructed with durable aluminum, ensuring a lasting quality.

During this time, parking at this station will be limited to accommodate the overpass removal.

To allow for the removal of the existing overpass, buses will substitute for trains between Valley Stream and Far Rockaway on Saturday, October 20. Buses will substitute for train service between these stations again on Saturday, November 3, as personnel install a new pedestrian overpass.

In the interim, the LIRR asks customers using Gibson Station to allow sufficient time to safely cross the tracks at the grade crossing at Dubois Avenue.

Buses will substitute for trains between Valley Stream and Far Rockaway stations.

Eastbound: Passengers will detrain at Valley Stream and board buses for Gibson through Far Rockaway stations. Passengers will arrive up to 24 minutes later, depending on originating station.

Westbound: Passengers will board buses at their stations from Far Rockaway through Gibson up to 27 minutes earlier for Valley Stream, where train service will resume.
