Farmingdale State College President Dr. John S. Nader, President of the MTA Long Island Rail Road Phil Eng, NICE Bus Marketing Manager Erika Richards, Suffolk County Commissioner of Public Works Joseph Brown and Nassau County Deputy Commissioner of Public Works Sean Sallie will join other Long Island leaders in kicking off the 9th Annual Car Free Day Long Island on September 21 Speakers to share innovations in Long Island sustainable mobility to entice Long Islanders away from their cars considering recent Climate Change Reports
Car Free Day Kick Off Rally speakers will present new healthy and sustainable mobility options for Long Islanders to explore in their daily lives:
If not now, when? The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change sixth assessment report predicts global warming of 1.5°C and 2°C will be exceeded unless deep reductions in greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions occur. Close to 40% of LI GHGs come from vehicles. Parking and traffic costs Long Island billions of dollars and millions of hours in delays. It is time for Long Island to embrace affordable and sustainable forms of mobility that will reduce emissions, support a healthier lifestyle, and get the wheels of economic recovery moving:

Car Free Day is an international event celebrated every September in over 3,100 cities in over 50 countries around the world. Long Island will observe the 9th Annual Car Free Day LI on Friday, September 25, 2020, encouraging people to drive less and get around through transit, bicycling, walking; vanpooling and also telework for people who can work from home. Car Free Day gives people the opportunity to reflect on the negative impact of single-occupancy vehicles and to use alternatives that help reduce traffic and harmful emissions, conserve energy and reduce parking problems.
