Quinnipiac and Colgate Look to Extend their Winning Ways

Tickets on Sale Now for 2015 ECAC Hockey Championship Tournament, March 20-21 in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- Fourth-ranked Harvard has been cruising through its division I men’s ice hockey schedule, except when they meet up with number-18 Yale.  The Crimson (10-2-2, 6-1-2) has just two losses this season, both coming at the hands of their Ivy League and ECAC Hockey foes. Loss number two was Saturday when they fell to Yale (9-4-2, 4-3-1), 4-1, at Madison Square Garden.

The two schools have one more regular season meeting, Feb. 6, when Harvard travels to Yale. Between now and then, Harvard can focus on trying to catch 12th-ranked Quinnipiac for the ECAC Hockey regular season championship crown.

The Bobcats (15-6-1, 10-2-) are 7-3 in their last 10 games en route to a six-point lead over second place Harvard. They also have a nine-point lead over third place and 15th ranked Colgate (13-6-1, 5-2-1). Quinnipiac won’t be able to extend their conference lead this weekend, but they will try to extend their three-game winning streak when they play a home-and-home, non-conference series against Merrimack.

Harvard will try to make up some ground when they host league foes Clarkson and St. Lawrence Universities, Friday and Saturday night. The Golden Knights (7-10-4, 4-3-2) and the Saints (9-10-2, 5-4-0) are tied for fourth in ECAC Hockey play with 10 points apiece.

While Harvard remains home this weekend, the Red Raiders, winners of four straight, travel to RPI and Union. The Engineers (7-16-1, 5-6-0,), tied with Clarkson and St. Lawrence in conference play, are 1-9 in their last 10 games with an offense that has produced just 1.5 goals per game during that span. The reigning national champions Dutchmen (11-8-2, 4-5-1) have bounced back in ECAC Hockey play since opening the season 0-3-1. They have won four of the last six conference games to claw their way into seventh place in the conference standings.
