DEC Statement on Dielectric Fluid Spill from Hudson Transmission Power Line

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) spill response staff took immediate action following a reported leak of dielectric fluid from the Hudson Transmission Power Line on Thursday, ‎November 24th at approximately 4:45 pm.

Vessels and personnel have been mobilized to
contain the spill and sweep the area where fluid is surfacing. An underwater effort is ongoing to identify the leaking feeder cable and stop the leak, which appears to be leaking approximately 50 gallons per hour.

The likely location of the leak is in between west 92nd and 94th streets in Manhattan.‎  This is the third reported spill from this transmission line this year.

DEC is working with the United States Coast Guard and the investigation is ongoing.  Additional information will be shared as it becomes available.
