NYS OFFICE OF GENERAL SERVICES RECOGNIZED AS A LEADER IN SUSTAINABLE ELECTRONICS PROCUREMENT2024 Marks State Agency’s Eighth Consecutive Year as an EPEAT Purchaser Award Winner |

New York State Office of General Services (OGS) Commissioner Jeanette Moy today announced that OGS has received a 2024 Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) Purchaser Award from the Global Electronics Council for excellence in the procurement of sustainable technology. OGS has earned this award for eight consecutive years. “This eighth consecutive EPEAT award demonstrates OGS’s continued commitment to incorporating sustainability into all aspects of our work in support of Governor Hochul’s ambitious climate goals for New York State,” Commissioner Moy said. “We are incredibly proud of the contributions the OGS Procurement team makes to support New York State’s role as a leader in sustainable government operations.” EPEAT is a global ecolabel for the IT sector that OGS uses in its contracts to ensure that vendors are providing electronics that meet strict sustainability criteria. These products are more energy efficient, less toxic, longer lasting, and easier to recycle than products that do not meet EPEAT criteria. The purchase of these IT products on state contract in 2023 will help avoid the disposal of 815 metric tons of solid waste. It will also result in savings of 34,873 MWh of electricity, which is enough to power 2,871 average U.S. households for a year. Since 2008, OGS has included a requirement in its aggregate computer buy for all desktops, notebooks, and tablets to meet EPEAT requirements. An aggregate buy is how New York State uses its buying power to get the best final pricing for items sold on state contracts and purchased in bulk by state agencies, local governments, schools, and nonprofits. |
