Union and Quinnipiac Taking Control of ECAC Hockey Conference

ALBANY, N.Y. --- Third ranked Union and fourth ranked Quinnipiac are both beginning to separate themselves from the rest of the 12-school pack in the chase for ECAC Hockey’s Clear Cup.

Playing on their home rink, Union (19-6-3, 13-3-0), riding a three game league winning streak, slipped past Brown, 4-3, Friday night, before topping 13th ranked Yale (12-7-4, 7-6-3), the reigning national champions, Saturday, 5-3. With 26 points, Union leads the conference by three points over Quinnipiac.

Meanwhile, the Bobcats (20-5-5, 10-3-3) played host to 14th ranked Clarkson (17-11-2, 10-6-0) and St. Lawrence (11-14-3, 5-8-3), posting a 1-1 record. The national championship runners up, topped the Golden Knights 6-3, to run their record to 5-1-2 against ranked foes, before falling to the Saints 3-2.

The weekend’s split kept Quinnipiac in second place in ECAC Hockey play, with 23 points, two ahead of 19th ranked Colgate (14-11-3, 10-5-1), who sit third.  The Red Raiders have won five of their last seven league matchups, including Saturday’s 6-1 win over 11th ranked Cornell (12-5-5, 12-5-5). The win came just one night after they fell to Yale, 4-1.
