Capitol Park After Dark Schedule

August 23 — “North by Northwest”
Cary Grant stars as an innocent man mistaken for a spy in one of director Alfred Hitchcock’s greatest thrillers. While leaving New York’s Plaza Hotel, advertising executive Roger Thornhill (Grant) has the misfortune of standing just as the name George Kaplan is paged — starting a lethal case of mistaken identity and a nonstop game of cat and mouse as he is pursued across North America by espionage agents trying to kill him — and by police who suspect him of murder.

August 30 — “An American in Paris”
Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron sing and dance to the music of George and Ira Gershwin in this winner of six Academy Awards, including Best Picture. When ex-GI Jerry Mulligan (Kelly) remains in Paris to pursue life as an artist, he is discovered by a wealthy female patron interested in more than his art. But Mulligan falls in love with a French woman (Caron) who is engaged to his best friend.?

September 6 — “Roman Holiday”
Audrey Hepburn’s Oscar-winning performance in her first starring role. “Roman Holiday” was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, and Audrey Hepburn captured an Oscar for her portrayal of a modern-day princess, rebelling against royal obligations, who explores Rome on her own. She meets Gregory Peck, an American newspaper reporter who, seeking an exclusive story, pretends ignorance of her true identity. But his plan falters as they fall in love. Eddie Albert contributes to the fun as Peck’s carefree photographer friend. Stylishly directed by William Wyler, this romantic comedy ranks as one of the most enjoyable films of all time.
