Insulation & Asbestos Workers Recruit Apprentices

Rochester, NY (March 18, 2022) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) for Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers, Local Union #26, will conduct a recruitment from April 7, 2022 through March 2, 2023 for two Insulation and Asbestos Worker apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications must be completed in person only at JATC for Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers, Local Union #26, 4348 Culver Road, Suite 3, Rochester, NY, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. No applications are to leave the premises. All applications must be received by March 2, 2023.

A $25.00 testing fee will be required from each applicant on the day of the “Success Profile Assessment” test. Please note: This fee may be waived upon request. Fee waivers will be approved upon showing verifiable proof of financial need.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must verbally attest that they are physically able to perform the work required of the trade which may include:
    • Lifting 50 lbs. unassisted.
    • Climbing ladders and work from heights above 8 feet.
    • Working in confined spaces.
    • Working in cold and hot environments such as coolers below 40 degrees and boiler rooms above 100 degrees.
  • Must have a valid New York State driver’s license in order to operate company vehicles.
  • Must be able to read, hear and understand verbal instructions and warnings given in English.
  • Must watch a “Realistic Job Preview” video and take a “Success Profile Assessment” test.
  • Must have reliable means of transportation to and from various job sites and required classes at the approved school.
  • Must be legally be able to work in the USA.
  • Must be willing to attend a minimum of 144 hours of required classroom instruction per year located at the JATC for Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers, Local Union #26 Training Center.
  • Must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
