Clarkson and RPI Faceoff Saturday Night in Lake Placid

Tickets still Available

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- Both Clarkson and RPI will try to get back on track when the two men’s ice hockey teams square off, Saturday night, Jan. 7, in Lake Placid’s Olympic Center. The two ECAC Hockey rivals faceoff at 7 p.m.

It’s been an up and down few months for the Golden Knights (9-8-3, 5-3-1). Seeded fourth in the conference, with 11 points, Clarkson has lost three in a row after falling to Northeastern, 8-2, Dec. 30, in a non-league match-up. Prior to the losing streak, Clarkson had gone unbeaten in their last eight games, dating back to early November.

Saturday’s game in Lake Placid is considered a home game for Clarkson. Following their matchup with the Engineers, they hit the road to take on Yale, Brown, Cornell and Colgate, who are a combined 10-17-2. Cornell is the only opponent with a winning conference record, 4-2-1.

RPI (3-18-1, 1-10) opened the second half of the season, falling to U-mass Lowell, Jan. 3, 5-1. The Engineers are averaging less than two goals per game in their last 11 and have lost six straight. Their last win came in Tempe, Ariz., Nov. 26, when they blanked the Arizona State Sun Devils 2-0.

One RPI player not struggling offensively is forward Evan Tironese. The Sophomore is ECAC Hockey’s fifth highest scorer this season with 20 points through 22 games. His goalie, Cam Hackett has also played well, giving up only 35 goals in 11 games and nine starts.

Saturday’s game is the second and final regular season game between the two schools. Clarkson traveled to Troy, N.Y., on Nov. 11, and scored three goals in the third period to come away with a 5-2 victory.

Tickets for the game are still available and can be purchased through Tickets.Com, by phone, 518-523-3330, or stopping into the Olympic Center box office, 2346 Main St., Lake Placid, NY 12946. Tickets are $15 for adults and just $10 for students and seniors.

MEDIA ADVISORY: Media credentials are now being accepted for the game. The attached credential request form must be returned no later than the end of the day today, Wednesday, January 4, 2017, for consideration. Return forms to Jon Lundin, ORDA communications, Email, jlundin@orda.org.
