Davey Joined NYCT Employees at the Jay St-MetroTech Station in Brooklyn

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) New York City Transit (NYCT) President Richard Davey greeted public school students as they returned to the transit system for the first day of school in New York City at the Jay St-MetroTech subway station in Brooklyn. President Davey and several NYCT employees welcomed back students, as well as other customers, with MTA themed goodies and encouraged all eligible students to sign up for free student MetroCards, which are administered by the NYC Department of Education.  

“The first subway or bus ride of the school year is a rite of passage for young New Yorkers,” said NYCT President Richard Davey. “Every day, New York City Transit is proud to help hundreds of thousands of students safely get to school for the day, and I was thrilled to welcome students back for their first day of school for the first time as President.” 

Student MetroCards and Travel Tips   

Free student MetroCards are issued by New York City schools to students in Kindergarten through 12th grade to travel to and from school via subway and bus. Students may only use the MetroCards on school days between 5:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.  Learn more about getting a student MetroCard here.
