The Office of General Services (OGS) today announced that the new official online store of the New York State Capitol is now selling even more of the popular items previously found only at the Empire State Plaza Visitor Center and Gift Shop in Albany.

Additional items added to the online store’s inventory include pullover Empire State Plaza sweatshirts, a New York State jigsaw puzzle, poster-size prints of the Capitol by artist and former OGS employee Tai Ping, Plaza flipbooks, and Executive Mansion ornaments.

With an online catalog that already includes face masks, unique gifts, and souvenirs, the online store, which had its official opening in early April, allows OGS to meet the demands of its customers beyond the Capital Region. With gifts available for a wide range of occasions, several of the items for sale will have a unique appeal to those interested in history, state capitols, and historic sites.

Supplies on some products are limited, and they may sell out quickly.

New to the store

Among the new items for sale at the online store are:

• Empire State Plaza pullover sweatshirts that were custom made for the online store. 

• State Seal mouse pad. This mouse pad, featuring New York State’s official seal, includes the new addition of the motto E Pluribus Unum, Latin for “out of many, one,” in addition to the state motto “Excelsior,” meaning “ever upward.” 

• Capitol Matchbox Miniature. This wooden miniature diorama of the Capitol, as seen from downtown Albany’s historic Capitol Hill, will allow people to keep a little memory of their visit to the Capitol with them wherever they go, and it really does come in a matchbox.

Featured initial offerings, which are still available to buy, include:

• Face masks with the #NYTough logo and the NYS Seal.
• The latest edition of C.R. Roseberry’s book “Capitol Story.”
• Capitol key chains, tie tacks, ornaments, and coasters.
• Albany postcards, kitchen towels, magnets, and pennants.

The online store’s inventory will continue to grow with new and different gifts, souvenirs, apparel, accessories, and items for the home and office.

The Plaza Visitor Center and Gift Shop is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. Masks are required, and social distancing rules are in place.
