Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Recruit Apprentices

Whitney Point, NY (December 28, 2018) - The Joint Apprenticeship Committee for The International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen, Local Union #3, will conduct a recruitment from December 31, 2018 through December 30, 2019 for 15 bricklayer, mason, and plasterer apprentices; 1 cement mason apprentice; and 1 tile setter apprentice, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the BAC-JATC Ithaca Training Center, 4 Railroad Street, Whitney Point, NY from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., every Monday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications are also available at the following Southern Tier Department of Labor offices, Monday through Friday, during normal business hours:

Completed applications must be returned to the BAC-JATC Ithaca Training Center, 4 Railroad Street no later than 12/30/19.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have at least a 10th grade education.
  • Must sign a statement indicating that they are physically able to perform the work of these trades, which may include:
    • Working with sharp objects, hazardous machinery, and possible exposure to noise and respiratory irritants. 
    • Prolonged standing and walking.
    • Repeated squatting and/or bending.
    • Working indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures.
    • Working in confined spaces.
    • Lifting and moving heavy objects and equipment up to 50 pounds.
    • Working off of ladders and scaffolds at unprotected heights, which may exceed 50 feet.
  • Must have reliable means of transportation to and from various job sites and related instruction.
  • Must be prepared to take a math and measurement computation test at the time of interview.
  • Must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
