The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance today announced an extension for certain tax filing and payment deadlines for taxpayers who were adversely affected by the flooding during the week of September 2, 2020.
 
Tax filing and payment deadlines occurring between September 15, 2021, and October 2, 2021, have been extended to December 14, 2021, for:

• filing any returns, including those for personal income tax, corporate taxes, sales tax and any other taxes administered by the Tax Department;
• paying any tax or installment of tax, including installment payments of estimated taxes;
• filing any requests for extensions or additional extensions of time to file;
• filing for a credit or refund;

Returns filed or tax payments made by those directly affected by the storm will not be subject to any late filing, late payment, or underpayment penalties or interest if received by December 14, 2021.  (Some exceptions apply: see Announcement Regarding Relief from Certain Filing and Payment Deadlines due to Post-Tropical Depression Ida for more information.)

Hurricane Ida was a deadly Category 4 Atlantic hurricane that afflicted a wide swath of the southern and eastern U.S. from August 26, 2021 to September 4, 2021. The hurricane resulted in an unprecedented rainfall and flooding in the greater New York City area and surrounding counties.
