DEC ANNOUNCES PROPOSED PLAN FOR CLEANUP OF SOLVAY WASTE BEDS SITE ON ONONDAGA LAKE

30-day Public Comment Period Runs Through Oct. 17; Public Meeting to Be Held Sept. 30

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today announced it will be accepting public comments on a proposed plan for remediation of Solvay Waste Beds 1-8 (Operable Unit 1), a 400-acre, inactive hazardous waste site on Onondaga Lake. The 30-day public comment period will run through Oct. 17.

DEC will host a public meeting on the proposed plan on Sept. 30th at the State Fairgrounds, 581 State Fair Blvd, Syracuse, in the Martha Eddy Room in the Art and Home Center. The meeting will feature an open house from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by a formal presentation on the plan. The public will then have an opportunity to ask questions about the proposed remediation plan and offer oral or written comments.
