WILMINGTON, N.Y. – Just ahead of the weekend, Mother Nature has dumped 17-inches of fresh powder on Whiteface Mountain, in Wilmington, N.Y. Fifty-six trails are open today, serviced by eight lifts for skiers and riders.

Today is also the final day of the 2019 International Children’s Winter Games’ Alpine competitions at the mountain. Young skiers and snowboarders, ages 12-15, have been competing on the Olympic mountain since Tuesday in slalom, giant slalom, freestyle, ski cross and snowboarding.

On Thursday and Friday, Jan. 17-18, the resort plays host to the FIS Moguls World Cup. Ninety athletes, from 14 countries, will compete on the Wilderness Trail.  A complete schedule of events can be found at https://www.whiteface.com/events/world-cup-freestyle. On Saturday, at 10 a.m., former Whiteface Mountain general manager Bruce McCulley will take skiers and riders on an Olympic history tour of the mountain. This is an insider’s look at what it took to get the trails ready for the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. The tour is open to intermediate and expert level skiers and riders and space is limited, so reserve your spot by emailing Whiteface’s guest services desk, at ski@whiteface.com.

Also on Saturday, head out with the resort’s park crew learn how to ride a rail, butter a box or perfect new trick. Whiteface Mountain’s park crew will teach skiers and snowboarders, of all abilities, how to do it correctly and safely. Sign up for the 1 p.m. lessons at the guest service desk Saturday.

There’s also live music in the Cloudspin Bar & Grill, Saturday, from 2:30-5 p.m., with Mary Byrd.
