Bricklayers and Allied Craft workers Recruit Apprentices

Newburgh, NY (February 23, 2015) - The Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local Union #5 will conduct a recruitment from March 23, 2015 through March 21, 2016 for five bricklayer-mason & plasterer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications can be obtained from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Monday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.  All applications must be postmarked no later than March 21, 2016.

Applications can be obtained and will be accepted at the following locations:

·         Dutchess County -  New York State Department of Labor, 191 Main Street, Poughkeepsie, NY   

·         Rockland County - Rockland County Building Trades, 8 Taylor Lane, New City, NY

·         Orange County - Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers LU# 5, 1 Scobie Drive, Newburgh, NY

·         Westchester & Putnam Counties - Building & Construction Trades Council of Westchester & Putnam Counties, 258 Saw Mill River Road, Elmsford, NY

·         Ulster County - New York State Department of Labor, 601 Development Court, Kingston, NY  

·         Sullivan County - New York State Department of Labor, 50 North Street, Monticello, NY  

The Committee requires that applicants:

§  Must be at least 18 years old.

§  Must have a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
