Quinnipiac Claims ECAC Hockey’s Regular Season Title

Tickets on Sale Now for 2015 ECAC Hockey Championship Tournament, March 20-21 in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- There are only two weeks remaining in ECAC Hockey regular season play and the only thing decided is that 11th ranked Quinnipiac has all but captured its second consecutive Cleary Cup, given to the conference’s regular season champion.

The Bobcats (20-8-2, 15-2-1) also clinched a first-round bye in the upcoming ECAC Hockey post season tournament after skating to a 2-1 win, Friday, against number-20 St. Lawrence and a 4-1 victory over seventh seeded Clarkson (11-15-4, 8-8-2), Saturday. Those two wins extended Quinnipiac’s unbeaten streak in league play to 10 games (9-0-1).

As for the rest of the league, simply put it’s a jumbled mess. Only six points separate second seeded St. Lawrence (16-11-3, 12-5-1) and sixth seeded Colgate (16-11-3, 8-7-3). The Saints have 25 points heading into the final two weeks of regular season play, while the Red Raiders have 19.

The Saints, who had their seven game winning streak snapped when they fell to Quinnipiac, on Friday, before skating to a 1-all tie against 12th seeded Princeton (4-17-3, 2-14-2) will try to hold off the rest of the field when they host 14th ranked and fourth seeded Harvard (18-3-3, 9-6-3), Friday, and fifth seeded Dartmouth (12-9-4, 9-7-2), Saturday. The Saints are just four points ahead of the Crimson and five points in front of the Big Green.

Thirteenth ranked and third seeded Yale (15-7-3, 10-6-2) has two road games and two home games left on their schedule. This weekend the reigning national champions travel to Quinnipiac, Friday, then onto Princeton, Saturday. They’ll close out the regular season when they play host to Colgate, Feb. 27, and Cornell (10-11-4, 8-8-2), Saturday, Feb. 28.  Cornell is tied with Clarkson for the conference’s seventh seed.
