Railroad Working as an Economic Driver in the Region’s Safe Reopening

More Than Half of Over 100-Plus Participating Hudson Valley Restaurants are Within Walking Distance of Metro-North Stations

As the New York metropolitan region reopens from the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and ridership continues to grow, Metro-North Railroad is inviting riders to take the train to events and getaways in the Hudson Valley and New York City.

Weekday ridership on Metro-North has grown approximately 6% since Labor Day with 22.3% of pre-COVID ridership systemwide. Weekend ridership has returned more quickly, having increased 21% from Labor Day. Saturday and Sunday ridership are at 46.2% and 46.3% of pre-COVID ridership.

“These deals are the perfect opportunity to welcome riders back to Metro-North,” said Catherine Rinaldi, President of Metro-North Railroad. “Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Metro-North Railroad has played a critical role in helping essential workers get to their jobs on the front lines. As New York continues to reopen, the railroad will be essential to the region’s economic recovery.”

Metro-North Railroad continues with its most aggressive cleaning regimen in the agency’s history. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March, Metro-North trains cars have been cleaned more than 120,000 times. Wearing masks or face coverings are also required on all trains and at stations.
