The Long Island Rail Road and New York City Subway will have extra service to a trio of large scale events planned for the weekend of June 22-23.

Pride on the Beach

The Pride on the Beach events, including the 29th annual Long Island Pride Parade, are taking place within walking distance of the LIRR’s Long Beach station. Train service operates hourly throughout the course of the weekend, and to help customers get to the event, the LIRR is operating six extra trains over the course of the weekend, which will make added stops between Penn Station and Long Beach.

On both Saturday and Sunday, extra trains will depart from Penn Station at 10:02 a.m., 12:18 p.m., and 4:59 p.m. Returning, extra trains will depart Long Beach at 11:45 a.m., 3:45 p.m., and 6:12 p.m.

Coney Island’s Mermaid Parade

Everyone gets to channel their inner fish at the annual Mermaid Parade at Coney Island from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. this Saturday, June 22.  The best way to reach the ocean-themed celebration is by the , ,  and  trains to Coney Island-Stillwell Av. 

The parade begins at West 21 Street and Surf Avenue and makes its way east to West 10 Street and the Boardwalk, ending at Stillwell Avenue.  The following NYC Transit bus routes operating in the area of the parade route and may be subject to street closures and reroutes: B36, B64, B68, B74, B82 and X28.

Customers are reminded that Coney Island-bound  trains run express from 8 Av to Bay Pkwy due to ongoing station rehabilitation work on the Sea Beach Line.  Also, this weekend due to ongoing maintenance, repair and upgrade work: Jamaica-179 St bound  run express from Avenue X to Smith-9 Streets; use a Coney Island-bound  train instead, and Manhattan-bound  trains run express from Kings Hwy to Prospect Park; use a Coney Island-bound  train to complete your trip. 

Dead & Company at Citi Field

MTA Long Island Rail Road is offering plenty of train service for older “Deadheads” and newer fans of Grateful Dead music who are heading to the Dead & Company concert at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 23. LIRR will add Mets-Willets Point stops on the Port Washington Branch to assist fans before and after the concert.

The LIRR’s westbound service will begin with the 3:42 p.m. train from Port Washington. Eastbound service will begin with the 3:40 p.m. train from Penn Station. A total of 34 trains will make the Mets-Willets Point stop in each direction and after the concert has ended, trains will continue to stop at Mets-Willets Point until concert-goers have been accommodated.

Those coming from eastern Long Island should consult branch timetables for service to Woodside Station in Queens, where transfers can be made to Port Washington Branch trains on Platform B for service to Mets- Willets Point Station. Please remember to take your train ticket when transferring at Woodside and have it ready for presentation at Mets-Willets Point.
