The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance announced today that the State’s first business ombudswoman has been honored as part of Women’s History Month.

Mwisa Chisunka, New York State Business Ombudswoman and Director of Business Tax Services and Education, was recognized by the Greater New York Chamber of Commerce at an awards event in New York City.

“Mwisa works tirelessly to educate businesses of all sizes and help them resolve tax questions and issues,” said Acting Commissioner of Taxation and Finance Nonie Manion.  “I commend Mwisa for her work as our first Business Ombudswoman, and congratulate her on this recognition.”

As Ombudsowman, Ms. Chisunka helps businesses navigate tax responsibilities and is a central point of contact to assist taxpayers with issue resolution.  She partners with chambers of commerce, small business development centers, major trade associations, nonprofit organizations, and Regional Economic Development Councils to identify opportunities to streamline and enhance effective tax administration.

“I’m humbled and honored to be an integral part of Women’s History Month in this way,” Ms. Chisunka told an audience of more than 100 business and civic leaders.  “The award gives me the opportunity to renew my commitment to—in whatever little way—helping women from all walks of life make progress and rise to higher levels.”
