Weekend Subway Service Advisory

Service Changes are Part of Subway Action Plan, Station Repairs and Other Ongoing Maintenance, and Upgrade Work for Improvements on Multiple Lines

MTA Announces Increased, Robust Subway Service for WorldPride Weekend

Construction Suspended in Manhattan South of 125 St and in l Train Tunnel; Increased Service on 1clw Lines

This weekend, work crews will be dispersed throughout the entire subway system to perform a variety of critical tasks in the areas of track replacement and maintenance, signal modernization, station enhancements, electrical upgrades and communication improvements.  All this work is aligned with the MTA Subway Action Plan, a comprehensive plan to stabilize and modernize the subway system by attacking the key drivers of 79 percent of delay-causing major incidents and strategically targeting additional personnel and equipment to focus on critical parts of the system.

These weekend service changes are part of the MTA Subway Action Plan, station improvements in Queens and Manhattan, and ongoing maintenance, repair and upgrade work throughout the MTA New York City Transit subway system to maintain and upgrade track, signal, station and other infrastructure in order to provide customers with safe and reliable service.  More information on the 2015-2019 MTA Capital Program is available here.

For a simple, graphical guide that makes it easy to visualize how this weekend maintenance, upgrade and repair work will affect subway service – and what alternative travel options are recommended – consult The Weekender at web.mta.info/weekender.html.  The Weekender is accessible through the MTA website by clicking the “Weekender” tab within the Service Status Menu, and is also available as a free app for iPhone and Android devices.

TripPlanner+ is an online tool that provides customized travel guidance based on available service and takes weekend service diversions into account.  In addition, customers can receive customized subway status emails or texts by signing up at www.MyMTAalerts.com.

Service details for WorldPride Weekend

MTA New York City Transit will substantially increase subway service this weekend to accommodate ridership for events associated with WorldPride and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising.  The Annual Heritage of Pride March will be held on Sunday, June 30, at noon.

The MTA will cancel l Tunnel construction this weekend and provide normal, pre-project levels of weekend service, including trains running every 4 to 9 minutes between 8 a.m. and noon; every 4 minutes between noon and 6 p.m.; every 4 to 6 minutes between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.; and every 10 minutes between 10 p.m. and midnight.

In addition to suspending construction in the l tunnel, NYC Transit is suspending all non-emergency construction on subway lines south of 125 St in Manhattan.  Further increases in subway service to WorldPride include:

  • Operating 1 trains every 6 minutes instead of every 8 minutes on Sunday
  • Operating c trains every 8 minutes instead of every 10 minutes on Sunday
  • Operating w trains, which typically does not run on weekends, from Ditmars Blvd to Whitehall St between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday

In addition, d trains will run local between W 4 St-Wash Sq and 34 St-Herald Sq between 11 a.m. and midnight on Sunday to provide more service to stations near the Pride March.  As l trains will be operating normally, m trains will operate on their regular pre-Project weekend schedules between Metropolitan Av and Delancey-Essex St.

As the Pride March route crosses 14th Street twice this year, buses that use this corridor as well as bus lines along the length of the parade will be detoured from the parade area.  Customers are encouraged to use the subway or alternate bus routes.  The crosstown M14A/D will be rerouted onto Houston Street for most of its route.

Traveling by Subway

The Pride March’s route will begin at Fifth Avenue and 25th Street, with participants walking south on Fifth Avenue, turning left on 8th Street and continuing to Christopher Street, then heading north along Seventh Avenue, ending at 23rd Street and Seventh Avenue.  For a graphical guide of the Pride March Route, click here

The best way to go is by subway using the following stations: 28 St, 23 St and Astor Place 6 line; 28 St, 23 St, 18 St and Christopher St 1 line; 23 St/6 Av df lines and 23 St/Broadway on the nrw lines; 14 St-Union Sq 456lnqrw; 14 St 123; 14 St/8 Av ace; 14 St/6 Ave dfl; 8 St-NYU nrw and W 4 St acedf.  For a complete list of subway stations closest to the parade route, click here.

To ensure the safety of all our customers, some staircases at the 23 St 1 may be designated as entrance-only or exit-only to prevent overcrowding.  Other nearby stations may be subject to similar designations throughout the day.  Transit officials will be monitoring the enhanced subway service closely, staffing key stations along the Pride March with additional customer ambassadors.  NYC Transit will be providing updates through social media and on the MTA website.

Traveling by Bus

Bus customers should allow additional travel time due to expected heavy ridership and detours due to street closures and reroutes. M14A/D buses will be rerouted from the Pride March path along 14th Street on Houston Street for most of its route.  M14 A/D travelling eastbound will be rerouted via Houston Street from 3 Avenue to West Street.  M14 A/D buses travelling westbound will be rerouted via Houston St from 9 Avenue to 3 Avenue.

The following NYC Transit and MTA Buses will take customers to/from the March on Sunday, however stops along the March’s route will be affected by street closures, detours, and frozen zones: M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M7, M8, M20, M23 SBS, M34/M34A SBS, M55, SIM1c, SIM3c, SIM4c, SIM33c, X27, X27, BxM3, BxM4, BxM6, BxM7, BxM8, BxM9, BxM10, BxM11, Q32 and QM4.
