The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced today it is seeking volunteers to participate in the Winter Raptor Surveys for the 2023-2024 season.

DEC wildlife personnel are holding an information session on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. at Mossy Bank Park, 110 Liberty Street, Bath, NY, 14810, for interested participants. DEC’s goal is to identify habitat used by threatened northern harriers and endangered short-eared owls during their nonbreeding, wintering period. Stationary surveys are conducted from mid-November to late April and begin one hour before sunset.
