SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The New York Lottery’s Gretchen Dizer today presented a ceremonial prize check to a Queensbury resident who won a $1,000,000 Sweet Million prize.

Jean Reilly won $1,000,000 from the May 9, 2013 Sweet Million drawing. Reilly explained, “I went to Hannaford to pick up something for lunch and to pick up an item I forgot with my regular grocery shopping earlier in the week. After I paid for my groceries, I had change of a dollar bill and the Lottery vending machine was right there, so I bought a Sweet Million ticket.”

Reilly said she checked her ticket online the next day and that’s when she knew she was a winner. “I knew right away when all my numbers matched that I had won a million dollars,” said Reilly.

Reilly bought her winning ticket on May 8 at the Hannaford Supermarket on Quaker Road in Queensbury. She claimed her prize on May 10, 2013.

Reilly will receive her $1,000,000 Sweet Million prize in one lump sum totaling $661,800 after required withholdings. Her plans for the money include making a trip to Florida to visit her son and to make some investments for the future.

About the New York Lottery

The New York Lottery continues to be North America’s largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing $3.04 billion in fiscal year 2012-2013 to help support education in New York State.  The Lottery’s contribution represents 15 percent of total state education aid to local school districts.

New York Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education.  It takes into account both a school district’s size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding.
