MTA Long Island Rail Road customers traveling on the Port Jefferson, Montauk, Oyster Bay, Babylon, Ronkonkoma, Far Rockaway and West Hempstead Branches over the weekend of August 6 and August 7 should allow extra travel time as the LIRR undertakes important maintenance projects keeping both the Main Line and the Port Jefferson Branch in a state of good repair.
The most significant impacts to service will be on the Port Jefferson, Montauk and Oyster Bay Branches.
Customers can pick up a copy of the Special Weekend Timetable showing revised train times for each of the seven branches or on find it online at http://web.mta.info/lirr/Timetable/. Here is a branch by branch summary of key changes:
Port Jefferson Branch
- Service between Hicksville and Huntington has been reduced from half-Hourly to hourly.
- Some Port Jefferson branch trains are cancelled and others are running on adjusted schedules.
- On Sunday, from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m., buses replace train service between Huntington and Hicksville. Eastbound customers should plan for up to 35 minutes of added travel time. Westbound customers at Huntington, Cold Spring Harbor and Syosset will board buses up to 35 minutes earlier than usual to Hicksville for train services to points west.
Montauk Branch
- On Sunday, many westbound Montauk branch trains will operate on adjusted schedules (including some “Sundays Only” seasonal trains) along with adjusted connecting trains at Jamaica to western terminals.
- Eastbound service is unaffected and will run normal on this day.
Oyster Bay Branch
- On Saturday, the westbound 10:19 p.m. train from Oyster Bay to Jamaica will have different Penn Station and Woodside connecting trains at Jamaica. Customers will instead connect 3 minutes later than normal with the 11:22 p.m. train to Penn Station and 20 minutes later than normal with the 11:39 p.m. train to Woodside.
- On Sunday, all westbound trains from 8:19 a.m. through 10:19 p.m. will operate on adjusted schedules, leaving Oyster Bay 7 minutes earlier than normal. Western terminal connections from Jamaica will remain normal.
- Eastbound Oyster Bay Branch service is unaffected and will run normally on Saturday and Sunday.
Babylon Branch
On Sunday, August 7, three evening westbound trains will be affected. They are:
- 5:48 p.m. westbound train from Freeport to Penn Station will operated on an adjusted later schedule.
- 7:34 p.m. and 9:34 p.m. trains will arrive at Jamaica later than normal and have later connections at Jamaica to western terminals.
Ronkonkoma Branch
- On Sunday, August 7 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. westbound service is reduced from half-hourly to hourly. The 10:05 a.m., 11:05 a.m. & 12:05 p.m. trains from Ronkonkoma are canceled.
- On Sunday, August 7 between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., eastbound service from Penn Station is reduced from half-hourly to hourly. The 4:32 p.m., 5:32 p.m. and 6:32 p.m. trains are canceled.
- Ronkonkoma Branch service is unaffected on Saturday, August 6.
Far Rockaway Branch
- The weekend westbound 10:47 p.m. train from Far Rockaway to Atlantic Terminal will have different Penn Station and Woodside connecting trains at Jamaica. Customers will instead connect 3 minutes later than normal with the 11:22 p.m. train to Penn Station and 20 minutes later than normal with the 11:39 p.m. train to Woodside.
West Hempstead Branch
- The weekend westbound 10:47 p.m. train from West Hempstead (transfer as usual to the 11:07 p.m. train at Valley Stream will have different Penn Station and Woodside connecting trains at Jamaica on both Saturday and Sunday. Customers will instead connect 3 minutes later than normal with the 11:22 p.m. train to Penn Station and 20 minutes later than normal with the 11:39 p.m. train to Woodside.
