Department of Labor Partners with Cortland Works and 50 Businesses to Offer More than 500 Job Openings

New York State Department of Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera today announced a Career Fair in Cortland, featuring more than 500 available jobs from 50 area businesses.

The Career Fair, hosted by the Cortland Works Career Center, will take place on October 24 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Cortland OCM BOCES inside the McEvoy Center on Route 13.

“Career Fairs offer job seekers and businesses alike a tremendous opportunity and can be the catalyst for an individual finding her or his new career or a business finding an ideal candidate,” said Commissioner Rivera.  “Here in Central New York, the Department of Labor is helping to make those connections that lead to continuing economic growth and prosperity.”

Businesses from health care, transportation, green energy, finance, food service, technology and other industries will offer a range of career opportunities to prospective employees.

For companies that require an online application, a bank of computers for applicants will be available at the career fair and staff will help job seekers through the online application process.

The job openings at the Career Fair will also be posted to Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Jobs Express website: www.jobs.ny.gov.  Jobs Express currently lists more than 100,000 openings statewide, with 6,500 in the Central New York region.

Other partners in the event include the JM Murray Center, the Cortland Chamber of Commerce, Tompkins Cortland Community College, ACCESS-VR and the Cayuga-Cortland WIB.
