DEC Chief of Staff Peter Walke Hosts Trout Stocking and Free Fishing Event at Six Mile Waterworks

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Chief of Staff Peter Walke will stock Six Mile Waterworks with 2,000 catchable size rainbow trout during a Free Fishing Event at 9:30 a.m. today.

Six Mile Waterworks is home to a variety of freshwater fish species including: largemouth bass, sunfish, yellow perch, chain pickerel, brown bullhead and most recently, rainbow trout.

            City of Albany’s Water Commissioner Joe Coffey
            Members of the public are invited to participate in the Free Fishing event

WHAT: Six Mile Waterworks Trout Stocking event stocked by VanHornesville Fish Hatchery and Free Fishing event.

When stocking is complete, anyone can fish without a fishing license from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.  Participants must comply with current fishing regulations. DEC Fisheries Staff will be available to provide casting instruction and other fishing education as needed. Fishing equipment and bait will be available for people to use. LL Bean will also be present to provide fly casting demonstrations.

(Visuals: stocking the lake with nearly 2,000 rainbow trout, involving a truck and bucket brigade, local volunteers and local residents. Members of the public participating in Free Fishing event).

WHERE: Six Mile Waterworks located off of Fuller Road between Washington and Central Avenues.

WHEN: 9:30 a.m., Today, April 26 – Event will take place rain or shine.
