Metro-North Announces Substitute Bus Service on Waterbury Branch From Friday Evening, September 30, Through Sunday, October 2

Service Change Will Accommodate Waterbury Branch Track Improvements

MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced that buses will replace Waterbury Branch trains between 8:30 p.m. on Friday, September 30, and 5:30 a.m. on Monday, October 3.

Southbound buses will operate 15 -30 minutes earlier than scheduled trains. Northbound buses (from Bridgeport to Waterbury) will follow the train schedule, however the trip may take an additional fifteen minutes. Metro-North urges customers to listen for announcements and check local or express bus service to their destination while boarding. Schedule details are below.

This weekend’s substitute bus service will help ensure the on-going safety and reliability of the Waterbury branch. The service change supports returning two New Haven Line tracks between Bridgeport and Devon back into service following their outage for Metro-North’s overhead wire catenary replacement project and renovation of the Devon Bridge.

Waterbury branch track work that will be underway this weekend includes: removing the Devon Transfer platform, running test trains to verify the integrity of the new overhead wire system, operating a “Sperry Car” to detect and repair any rail flaws, completing the installation of the second turnout for the future Derby side track and cutting brush and trees.
