DEC Statement on EPA Proposal to Add Saint Gobain – McCaffrey Street Site to the National Priorities List

As part of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s ongoing and aggressive response to Perfluorooctanoic acid contamination in Hoosick Falls and Petersburgh, we welcome EPA finally acting on DEC’s January 15, 2016 request to propose the Saint Gobain – McCaffrey Street Site to the National Priorities List.  DEC has already listed the area as a state superfund site and for over 8 months have been investigating the extent of the contamination and holding the polluters accountable to advance the necessary clean up, as we continue to do with other contaminated sites in Petersburgh, NY and Newburgh, NY.  We urge EPA to move quickly to formally add this site to the federal superfund program and actually begin contributing federal resources to build on the state’s ongoing restoration underway.
