Enhanced M14A Bus Service, Special Weekend  Service & Shuttle Buses Provide Alternate Service for  Line Customers this Weekend  

Service Changes are Part of Subway Action Plan,
Station Repairs and Other Ongoing Maintenance, 
Repair and Upgrade Work for Improvements on Multiple Lines 

These weekend service changes are part of the MTA Subway Action Plan, station work in Queens and Manhattan, and work to improve  train reliability in preparation for next year’s  Tunnel Reconstruction Project.  The  Line is undergoing significant repairs since the Canarsie Tunnel suffered the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy in 2012, when it was flooded with seven million gallons of salt water, damaging vital infrastructure and operating systems.  More information about the  train preparatory work this weekend is available in this press release issued last week.

Ongoing maintenance, repair and upgrade work throughout the MTA New York City Transit subway system, maintain and upgrade track, signal, station and other infrastructure in order to provide MTA customers with safe and reliable service.  More information on the 2015-2019 Capital Program is available here.

This weekend, work crews will be dispersed throughout the entire subway system to perform a variety of critical tasks in the areas of track replacement and maintenance, signal modernization, station enhancements, electrical upgrades and communication improvements.  All this work is aligned with the MTA Subway Action Plan, a comprehensive plan to stabilize and modernize the subway system by attacking the key drivers of 79 percent of delay-causing major incidents and strategically targeting additional personnel and equipment to focus on critical parts of the system.

TripPlanner+ is an online tool that provides customized travel guidance based on available service and takes weekend service diversions into account.  In addition, customers can receive customized subway status emails or texts by signing up at www.MyMTAalerts.com.

At all times until November 2018,  trains will skip 145 St in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.  The 145 St  line station opened more than a century ago in 1904.  As crews make critical repairs to the station infrastructure such as concrete and metal platforms, stairs, beams and columns, they will also work to modernize the station with enhancements to all entrances including stairs, LED lighting, digital signage providing real-time service information, and new turnstile areas with security cameras and brighter lighting.  Countdown clocks and Help Points, which allow customers to communicate quickly with staff for assistance or emergencies, will be installed throughout the stations.  New station furniture and platform safety enhancements such as tactile edge warning strips also will be installed to improve customer safety.  During this closure, use nearby stations at 148 St , 145 St , or 135 St .  Use M7 and M102 buses along Lenox Av, or the Bx19 along 145 St and transfer to the subway with a MetroCard.  For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, click here. 

At all times until December 2018,  trains will skip 28 St in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.   The 28 St  station is one of the oldest in the subway system, since it opened on the day that subway service began in October 1904.  See the  entry above for project details.  For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby  stations along Park Av South at 33 St or 23 St.  Or, use the nearby 28 St  station Broadway.  Local buses are also available along Lexington Av and Madison Av.  For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, click here. 

From 3:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, August 11, and Sunday, August 12, Flushing-Main St bound  trains run express from 74 St-Broadway to Willets Point due to track replacement.  As an alternative, use a Hudson Yards- bound  train to complete your trip.  Transfer at Willets Point, Junction Blvd, or 74 St-Broadway. 

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13, downtown  trains will run express from 125 St to Canal St due to signal maintenance.  As an alternative, use an uptown  local, , or  to complete your trip.  Transfer at Canal St, W 4 St-Wash Sq, 14 St, or 34 St-Penn Station, 42 St-Port Authority, 59 St-Columbus Circle , or 125 St . 

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13, uptown  trains skip 135 St and 155 St due to station enhancements.  As an alternative, use a downtown  local to complete your trip.  Transfer at 168 St, 145 St, or 125 St.  As a reminder,  trains do not run overnight, and the 163 St-Amsterdam Av station is closed for renovations until September 2018.   

From 10 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13, downtown  trains stop at 155 St and 135 St due to station enhancements. 

At all times until September 2018  trains skip 163 St-in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.  Refer to the  line entry above for a detailed description of renovations and project details.  For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby 168 St , 155 St , or 157 St 1 instead.  Use M3, M100 or M101 buses and transfer to the  at 168 St or 155 St with MetroCard.  Need to transfer to another bus?  Ask the M3, M100 or M101 driver for a MetroCard Bus Transfer which is valid on your next local bus ride within two hours.  On your return trip, ask the station agent at 168 St or 155 St for a transfer to the bus.    

At all times until Monday, September 3,  service will be suspended in both directions between Broad Channel and Far Rockaway-Mott Av due to a flood protection project in the Rockaways that will make critical subway infrastructure more resilient in the face of future storms, and improve the overall reliability of subway service on the peninsula.  During this closure,  service will operate between Inwood-207 St and Broad Channel, and via the  to/from Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St.   shuttle trains will run between Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St and Beach 90 St, and via the  to/from Far Rockaway-Mott Av.  For Far Rockaway/Mott Av-bound service take the  via transfer at Beach 90 St.  For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, click here. 

Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, August 10,  service will end early due to station improvements at 145 St.  As an alternative,  line customers should take the  and/or  instead.  As a reminder,  service does not run on weekends.

At all times until September 2018,  trains will skip Cathedral Parkway-110 St in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.  When this project is completed, customers will benefit from critical structural and safety repairs and improvements to concrete and steel features such as columns, beams, platforms, walls and stairs.  There will also be other improvements and upgrades such as improved waterproofing, a reconfigured mezzanine area including new glass barriers, new security cameras, LED lighting for increased light and energy efficiency, and enhanced signage for easier navigation including digital, real-time service change and train and bus arrival information.  For alternate service during this closure, walk to the nearby  stations at 116 St and 103 St, along Fredrick Douglas Blvd/Central Park West.  Or take the  at 110 St, along Broadway.  Use the M10 bus along Fredrick Douglas Blvd and transfer to the  ( overnight) at 116 St or 103 St with MetroCard.  If you need to transfer to another bus, ask the M10 bus operator for a MetroCard Bus Transfer, which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours.  On your return trip, ask the station agent at 116 St or 103 St for a transfer to the bus.  For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, click here.

• For either station, if you need to transfer to another bus, ask the M10 bus operator for a MetroCard Bus Transfer which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours. On your return trip, ask the station agent at 81 St, 59 St, or 96 St for a transfer to the bus

From 9:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday, August 10, and from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12,  service is suspended in both directions between 145 St and 168 St due to station enhancements at 163 St.   trains will run between 145 St and Euclid Av.  Downtown  trains will make station stops at 155 St and 135 St.  Transfer at 125 St or 145 St.

From 9:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday, August 10, and from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12, downtown  trains will run express from 125 St to Canal St due to signal maintenance.  As an alternative, use an uptown  local, , or  to complete your trip.  Transfer at Canal St, W 4 St-Wash Sq, 14 St, or 34 St-Penn Station, 42 St-Port Authority, 59 St-Columbus Circle , or 125 St . 

From 10:45 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13, Norwood-205 St bound  trains are rerouted via the  line from Coney Island-Stillwell Av to 36 St due to track maintenance.  As an alternative, use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  train to complete your trip.  Transfer at 36 St, 62 St-New Utrecht, or Coney Island-Stillwell Av. 

From 10:45 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13, Norwood-205 St bound  trains skip 170 St, 174-175 Sts and 182-183 Sts due to track maintenance.  As an alternative, use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  train to complete your trip.  Transfer at Fordham Rd, Tremont Av, or 167 St. 

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13, Manhattan-bound  trains skip Briarwood and 75 Av due to signal improvements.  As an alternative, use a Jamaica Center-bound  or Jamaica-bound  to complete your trip.  Transfer at 71 Av, Union Tpke, or Jamaica-Van Wyck . 

From 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday to Monday, August 10 to August 13, Manhattan-bound  trains run express from 71 Av to Queens Plaza due to signal improvements.  As an alternative, use a Jamaica Center-bound  local or 71 Av-bound  to complete your trip.  Transfer at Queens Plaza, Roosevelt Av or 71 Av. 

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13, downtown  trains skip 23 St and Spring St due to signal maintenance.  As an alternative, use an uptown  local, , or  to complete your trip.  Transfer at Canal St, W 4 St-Wash Sq, 14 St, or 34 St-Penn Station. 

At all times until December 2018,  trains will skip 57 St in both directions due to due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.  Beyond repairing deterioration at this station, when this project is completed, customers will benefit from new station entrances enhanced with digital signage providing real-time information, countdown clocks, new railings or canopies, and brighter, more energy-efficient lighting, upgraded turnstile areas with glass barriers, security cameras, new information centers and digital dashboards.  Platforms will be outfitted with new platform edge warning strips, accessible boarding areas, new seating furniture, digital dashboards with wayfinding information and new countdown clocks.  For alternate service during this closure, use nearby stations at 57 St-7 Av , 5 Av/59 St , 7 Av , 5 Av/53 St , or 47-50 Sts .  Local buses are also available along 5 Av, 6 Av and 57 St.  

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13, Manhattan-bound  trains skip Sutphin Blvd, Briarwood and 75 Av, due to signal improvements.  As an alternative, use a Jamaica Center-bound  or Jamaica-bound  to complete your trip.  Transfer at 71 Av, Union Tpke, or Parsons Blvd . 

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13, 179 St-bound  and Court Sq-bound  trains will skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, 15 St-Prospect Park and 4 Av-9 St due to track maintenance.  As an alternative, use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  or Church Av-bound  to complete your trip.  Transfer at Smith-9 Sts, 7 Av, or Church Av. 

At all times until December 2018,  trains will skip 23 St in both directions due to due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.  The 23 St  station opened around the time of World War II, in December 1940.  These extensive repairs will fix structural defects and deterioration, and include functional station improvements, leading to an enhanced customer experience for approximately 31,000 daily riders who use the 23 St  station.  For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby 34 St-Herald Sq or 14 St  stations along 6 Av.  Or, use the nearby 23 St  station on Broadway.  Local buses are also available along 6 Av and 7 Av.  For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, and listing of nearby bus routes, click here. 

At all times until late Summer 2018, Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer-bound  trains skip 121 St due to station rehabilitation work.  For service to this station, take the  to Sutphin Blvd and transfer to a Broad St-bound .  As a reminder, Broad St-bound  trains skip 121 St from 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. on weekdays; take the  instead.  For service from this station, take the  to 111 St and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound . 

From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, August 11 to 10 p.m. Sunday, August 12,  service is suspended in both directions between Crescent St and Jamaica Center due to station rehabilitation work at 121 St and 104 St.   trains will run between Broad St and Crescent St.  Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service, and make all  line station stops between Crescent St and 121 St, and connect with the  at Jamaica-Van Wyck.  Transfer between trains and free shuttle buses at Jamaica-Van Wyck  or Crescent St .  As a reminder, the Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer-bound  platforms at 104 St and 121 St are closed for renovations until late Summer 2018. 

From 11:30 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13,  service is suspended in both directions between 8 Av and Broadway Junction due to critical infrastructure work including signal maintenance and improvements at Bedford Av, and extensive track maintenance between Bedford Av and Rockaway Pkwy.  In 2012, the Canarsie Tunnel suffered the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy when it was flooded with seven million gallons of salt water, damaging vital infrastructure and systems such as power, signal and communication cables, tracks, switches, lighting, cable ducts and bench walls in the 7,110 foot tunnel.  While we were able to drain the tubes and restore service just 10 days after the storm, it was clear that the damage Sandy left in its wake simply must be addressed and a full reconstruction of the tunnel is required.

This weekend’s improvement work will help prepare the  line for reliable service when the  tunnel between Brooklyn and Manhattan is reconstructed in 2019, causing  trains to run in Brooklyn only for 15 months.  trains will run between Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy and Broadway Junction.  M14 and free shuttle buses will provide alternate service between 8 Av and Broadway Junction.  Free shuttle buses will operate along three routes: between Marcy Av  and Lorimer St; between Lorimer St and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs; and between Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs and Broadway Junction.  Transfer between trains and shuttle buses at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs , Broadway Junction , or Marcy Av .  Additional nearby subway and local bus service is also provided to accommodate customers.   trains will provide additional service from 6:30 a.m. to 12 midnight, Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12, and will operate between Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts, and via the  line between Lexington Av/63 St and 96 St.  

Beginning 8:15 p.m. Friday, August 10,  service will end early between 71 Av and Delancey-Essex Sts due to signal improvements.

From 6:30 a.m. to 12 midnight, Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12,  trains will provide additional service due to structural improvements on the  line, and will operate between Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts, and via the  line between Lexington Av/63 St and 96 St.

At all times until fall 2018, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, 20 Av, Kings Hwy, Avenue U and 86 St due to station rehabilitation work at nine stations on the Sea Beach Line.  When finished, this will yield a better travel experience for our customers including the installation of elevators at 8 Av and New Utrecht Av stations, providing our mobility impaired customers with better accessibility, upgraded communication systems, installation of Help Point intercoms, new stairways and handrails, reconstructed platforms and overpasses, repairs to canopies and columns, and artwork.

• For service to these stations, take the Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  to Bay Pkwy or Coney Island-Stillwell Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound .
• For service from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound  to Bay Pkwy or 8 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound .
• For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the  Transfer between  and  trains at 36 St or Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

At all times until February 2019,  trains will skip Broadway and 39 Av in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.  When this project is completed, customers will benefit from critical structural and safety repairs and improvements to concrete and steel features such as columns, beams, platforms, walls and stairs. There will also be other improvements and upgrades such as improved waterproofing, a reconfigured mezzanine area including new glass barriers, new security cameras, LED lighting for increased light and energy efficiency, and enhanced signage for easier navigation including digital, real-time service change and train and bus arrival information.  For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby open Astoria line stations at 30 Av, 36 Av, or Queensboro Plaza via the Q102 bus.  For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, click here. 

At all times until July 2019,  trains will run local in both directions between 59 St and 36 St in Brooklyn due to structural rehabilitation work to repair and replace steel columns, lighting, ventilators, and deteriorated concrete, and perform water mitigation work to address water seepage in the express tunnel between the 59 St and 36 St stations.   trains will stop at 53 St and 45 St in both directions.

From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, August 11 to 10 p.m. Sunday, August 12, free shuttle buses will replace  trains in both directions between Ditmars Blvd and Queensboro Plaza due to track replacement.   trains will run between Queensboro Plaza and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.  Free shuttle buses make all  line station stops between Ditmars Blvd and Queensboro Plaza.  Transfer between trains and buses at Queensboro Plaza.    

From 6 a.m. Saturday, August 11 to 10 p.m. Sunday, August 12, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  trains are rerouted via the  line (Lower Manhattan) from Canal St to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr due to track replacement.  Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  trains will stop at City Hall, Cortlandt St, Rector St, Whitehall St, Court St, Jay St-MetroTech, and DeKalb Av.   

From 4 a.m. Saturday, August 11 to 10 p.m. Sunday, August 12, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  trains are rerouted via the  line (Lower Manhattan) from Canal St to DeKalb Av due to track replacement.  Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  trains will stop at City Hall, Cortlandt St, Rector St, Whitehall St, Court St, Jay St-MetroTech.     

From 9:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday, August 10, and from 5:30 a.m. to 12 midnight, Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12, Manhattan-bound  trains run express from 71 Av to Queens Plaza due to signal improvements.  As an alternative, use a 71 Av-bound  train to complete your trip.  Transfer at Queens Plaza, Roosevelt Av, or 71 Av.
