Throgs Neck Bridge Weekend Lane Closures For Milling and Paving Work: Fri. 9/23-Mon. 9/26 |
|
Up to two Bronx-bound lanes will be closed this weekend at the Throgs Neck Bridge starting Friday night, September 23rd through Monday morning, September 26th, 2016. At least one lane will remain open to Bronx-bound traffic. Furthermore, two Queens-bound lanes will also be closed from Friday night, 10pm to Saturday morning, 5am for necessary construction work. At least one lane will remain open to Queens-bound traffic. Weekend work requires the following lane closures:
The paving work entails a total of at least six weekends throughout the summer in order to replace a total of 75,000-square-feet of binder and asphalt overlay. “Doing this work on weekends and overnight when traffic volume is lower causes the least impact to customers,” said Throgs Neck Facility Engineer Edmond Knightly. Once completed motorists will have a smoother, more-even riding surface. Motorists should expect delays and plan accordingly. The Bronx-Whitestone and the Robert F. Kennedy bridges can be used as alternate routes. This work is heavily dependent on suitable weather. The contractor cannot perform the work in rainy weather or in extreme humidity. Motorists can sign up for MTA e-mail or text alerts at www.mta.info for the latest information on this planned work. |
