FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Albany, NY (May 23, 2013) -- The Finishing Trades Institute of New York at Albany, District Council 9, Local Union 201, will conduct a recruitment from June 5, 2013 through May 28, 2014 for 10 painter, decorator, and paperhanger apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Albany Labor Temple, 890 Third Street, Albany, NY from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on every Wednesday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications will not be available December 25, 2013 and January 1, 2014.

The Committee requires that applicants:

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have at least a 10^th grade education.     
• Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites and related instruction classes.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
