Metro-North Encourages Cyclists To Take Train To “Bloomin’ Metric Ride” on Sunday, May 22

Join the Bike Convoy at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, Conn.

This Sunday, May 22, over 2,600 cyclists will be peddling in the 39th annual “Bloomin’ Metric Ride,” a self-paced ride for cyclists at different levels.  Taking Metro-North to the Green’s Farms station on the New Haven line is the best way to get to the ride safely and on time.

While Metro-North allows bicycles on trains year-round, for Sunday’s “Bloomin’ Metric Ride,” the railroad will be suspending bicycle permit and per train limit on number of bicycles on all New Haven Line trains departing Grand Central Terminal from 5:35 a.m. – 5:07 p.m., and arriving Grand Central Terminal from 6:40 a.m. – 6:40 p.m.

The ride starts at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, less than two miles from the Green’s Farms station.  Event registration will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.  Cyclists can choose from among three supported distances: a 25 mile, a 45 mile, and a 60 mile ride. The ride takes cyclists along the shore before heading north into beautiful Fairfield County.

There are three food stops along the 60 mile route, two on the 45 mile route and one on the 25 mile route.  Event organizers will be serving breakfast, and there will be numerous food trucks from which cyclists can choose lunch.
