State Labor Department Partners with 40 Businesses Offering 1,100 Jobs at Bronx Career Fair

Governor Cuomo’s Unemployment Strikeforce Event Will Feature Available Jobs in the Mall at Bay Plaza and Surrounding Area

State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera today announced a NY Works Career Fair at Co-Op City, featuring more than 40 businesses and 1,100 job opportunities in the Mall at Bay Plaza and in the surrounding area.

As part of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s ongoing Unemployment Strikeforce initiative, launched last month, the event will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Co-Op City Auditorium in the Bronx.

“Governor Cuomo’s Strikeforce is connecting businesses that have job openings with potential employees in targeted areas,” Commissioner Rivera said. “This is a great opportunity and we anticipate a large response. I encourage job seekers in the Bronx to register for this event as soon as possible.”

Several participating businesses will offer on-site interviews and computers will be available at the event so job seekers may go online to apply for positions.

Space is limited, so interested job seekers are urged to pre-register at: www.labor.ny.gov/bayplaza.

Announced in May, Governor Cuomo’s Unemployment Strikeforce is a new multi-pronged campaign to boost employment in areas of the state with the highest unemployment rates. Through a partnership of the State Department of Labor, Empire State Development and other public and private partners, the campaign will strategically augment services in Bronx, Jefferson, Lewis and Kings Counties through the end of 2014.

Career fairs and customized recruitment services can be tailored to a specific business to assist in their hiring needs. Department of Labor Business Services Team members will help a business review applicants, set up and schedule events, and match candidates based on skills and applicable hiring and training incentives.
