PHOTO ADVISORY: MTA NYC Transit Offers Vintage Train Ride to Yankees’ Home Opener

MTA New York City Transit has rescheduled its annual Opening Day tradition of a vintage train ride to Yankees Stadium on Monday, April 2, 2018, due to inclement weather. The nostalgia train will operate on Tuesday, April 3, 2018.

The vintage train known as the “Lo-V” will operate nonstop from the uptown express platform of the Lexington Avenue 456 Line at 42 St-Grand Central, departing at 2:30 p.m. The “Lo-V” will run from 42 St-Grand Central to 161 St-Yankee Stadium, arriving in time for the first pitch at Yankees Stadium.

This vintage 4-car train consists of four low-voltage subway cars from 1917. The train’s nickname comes from its electrical usage, which did not rely on the third rail to operate. Instead, it used a voltage relayed from a series of batteries fed from the third rail.

WHAT:      The 4-car “Lo-V” nostalgia train, operating as a nonstop 4 train from 42 St-Grand Central to 161 St-Yankee Stadium.

WHEN:      Tuesday, April 3.

WHERE:     Departs from the uptown 4 express tracks at 42 St-Grand Central at 2:30 p.m.
