Millwrights Recruit Apprentices

Rochester, NY (April 2, 2018) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Eastern Millwright Regional Council, will conduct a recruitment from May 01, 2018 through April 30, 2019 for 10 millwright apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Please note that the 10 openings listed for millwright apprentices represent the total number for multiple recruitment regions: The Capital District, Central, Finger Lakes, Mohawk Valley, North Country, Southern Tier, and Western regions of New York. 

Applications can be obtained from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period, at the following locations:

  • Rochester – Rochester Works, Career Center, 276 Waring Rd., Rochester, NY 14609.
  • Jamestown – Jamestown Career Center, 4 East Third Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
  • Corning – Corning Career Center, 23 West Market Street, Suite 201, Corning, NY 14830.
  • Binghamton – Broome-Tioga Workforce New York, 171 Front St., Binghamton, NY 13905.
  • Buffalo - Construction Exchange, 2660 Williams Street, Cheektowaga, NY 14227.
  • Syracuse – Millwrights Local #1163, 6489 Ridings Road, Syracuse, NY 13206.

  • Utica – Working Solutions One-Stop Career Center, NYS Office Building, 207 Genesee Street, 2nd Floor, Utica, NY 13501.

  • Monticello – Sullivan Works Career Center, 50 North Street, Monticello, NY 12701.
  • Albany – Career Central, 175 Central Avenue, Albany, NY 12206.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old. A signed statement must be submitted at the time of application. Proof will be required at the time of employment.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED). A signed statement must be submitted at the time of application. Proof will be required at the time of employment.
  • Must sign a statement indicating that they are physically able to perform the work of the trade, which may include:
    • Working from heights.
    • Working in confined spaces and underground.
    • Working in all types of weather conditions and in all types of indoor conditions including heat and cold.
    • Lifting a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various jobsites and related instruction classes. A signed statement attesting to this must be submitted at the time of application.
  • Must live within the geographical jurisdiction of the Eastern Millwright Regional Council, which includes every county in New York State except for Dutchess, Nassau, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Suffolk, Westchester, Bronx, Kings, New York, Queens, and Richmond.
  • Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must take a math and measuring test. Score will be part of the evaluation.
  • Must participate in an interview, if selected.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
