Utica, NY (April 24, 2017) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Laborers, Local Union #35, will conduct a recruitment from May 25, 2017 through April 26, 2018 for four to six skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today. 

Applications can be obtained at Local Union #35, 112 South Street, Utica, NY, on the last Thursday of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Note: If the last Thursday of the month is a holiday, the recruitment will take place on the Thursday prior to the holiday. Applications must be received no later than May 3, 2018.

The Committee requires that applicants:

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
• Must be physically able to perform the work of the trade as determined by a physical and drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from work related instruction.
• Must have six months of trade-related experience.
• Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.
• Must reside within the jurisdiction of Local Union #35, which includes:
• Hamilton County
• Herkimer County
• Madison County
• Oneida County
• Fulton County – the townships of Caroga, Ephrata, Oppenheim, and Stratford.
• Montgomery County – the townships of Canajoharie, Minden, Palatine, Root, and St. Johnsville.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.
