Insulators and Asbestos Workers Recruit Apprentices

Albany, NY (January 17, 2014) – The International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers, Local Union #40, will conduct recruitment from January 27, 2014  through January 12, 2015 for four insulation and asbestos worker apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Local Union #40, 890 Third Street, Albany, NY, the second and fourth Monday of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have at least a 10th grade education, with a passing grade in Math I.
  • Must be able work in high places like scaffolds and ladders, outdoors and indoors.
  • Must sign a consent form agreeing to random drug screening at the sponsor’s expense, if selected.
  • Must be a resident of the jurisdictional area of Local Union #40 for at least one year prior to the application date. This jurisdiction includes the following counties: Albany, Clinton, Columbia, Delaware, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Sullivan, Ulster, Warren, and Washington.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
