Vermont’s Ross Miner Added to Team USA’s Skate America Lineup

Tickets Remain of Sale for Skate America Grand Prix in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- U.S. Figure Skating recently added Ross Miner, a native of Burlington, Vt., to its men’s lineup of skaters who will compete in the Skate America Grand Prix, Nov. 24-26, in Lake Placid, N.Y. In addition to Miner, the American men’s roster also includes Nathan Chen and Adam Rippon.

Miner should feel right at home on the Olympic Center’s Herb Brooks Arena ice. As a young skater, he trained in Lake Placid and just seven years ago, he skated to a gold medal during the Junior Grand Prix Lake Placid event. Since moving to the senior level of competition, Miner has captured one national championship silver medal and two bronze medals.

Skate America features three days of competition in ladies, men, pairs and ice dance. The men and pairs’ short programs are set for Friday, Nov. 24. The ladies’ short program and short dance, as well as the pairs and men’s free skate, takes place Saturday, Nov. 25.

On Sunday, Nov. 26, the competition concludes with the free dance and ladies’ free skate. The Skate America Smucker’s Skating Spectacular, an exhibition of champions, medalists and invited guests, is slated for Sunday evening.

The Skate America competitive field includes 60 world-class athletes, many of whom competed at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia and recent World Championship events. Miner, Chen, Karen Chen, Haven Denney and Brandon Frazier and Maia and Alex Shibutani headline the American lineup.  The international slate features 2017 World silver medalists Aliona Savchenko in pairs and World bronze medalists Gabrielle Daleman of Canada and Boyang Jin of China in ladies and men’s, respectively. The full event roster is available here.

Past Skate America titlists include five-time World champion and two-time Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan and Olympic champions Kristi Yamaguchi, Scott Hamilton, Evan Lysacek and Meryl Davis and Charlie White. This marks the fifth time the event has been held in Lake Placid.
