LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Wisconsin-Stevens Point is seeking its sixth national championship crown, while St. Norbert looks for their fifth when the 2018 NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Championship begins Friday, March 23, in Lake Placid, N.Y. Wisconsin-Steven Point (21-5-3), the 2016 national champions, open Friday’s semi-finals when they face-off against Salve Regina (21-5-2), at 3 p.m., in the Olympic Center. The Pointers advanced into the final round of four when they topped Adrian College, 5-2, Saturday, March 17. The Seahawks punched their ticket to Lake Placid after skating past Nichols College, last night, 4-3. St. Norbert (25-4-1) is looking forward to their record 12th Frozen Four appearance and will square off against Colby College (16-10-2), in Friday’s second game, slated for 6:30 p.m. The Green Knights, who have played in four Frozen Fours in Lake Placid, topped Augsburg, 5-2, in their national quarterfinals, Saturday, and ran their active winning streak to 10 consecutive games. Meanwhile, Colby’s Justin Grillo scored with just 1.6-second remaining in regulation, lifting the Mules past SUNY Geneseo, 2-1, in their NCAA quarterfinal match-up, Saturday. Colby comes to Lake Placid riding a nine game unbeaten string, at 7-0-2. The winners from Friday night play for the 2018 national title, Saturday, at 6:30 p.m. This marks a record seventh time that the famed Herb Brooks Arena has hosted the NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey National Championship.
