DEC Statement on Schenectady Explosion

DEC Spills staff immediately responded today (10/17/16) to a truck explosion at the Cady Company in Schenectady.  The company was loading a mix of asphalt and kerosene into a tanker truck.  During the heating of a valve, the vapors ignited causing an explosion and fire.  The local fire department extinguished the fire quickly.  The fire is now out and all runoff is contained to the plant.  There is no environmental impact to the Mohawk River or surrounding areas.  Three people suffered injuries in the fire and were transported to an area hospital.  DEC, the fire department and other emergency personnel remain on scene, and the incident remains under investigation.
