OGS OFFERING SPECIAL CAPITOL SUFFRAGE TOUR ON ELECTION DAY |
|
New York State Office of General Services Commissioner RoAnn Destito today announced that a free tour of the Capitol focusing on the history of the suffrage movement in New York State will be given at 1 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 6. New York State is where the first Women's Rights Convention was held in Seneca Falls in 1848 and where women won the right to vote in 1917, three years before the 19th amendment was ratified. This special one-hour tour will explore the connections between the New York State Capitol and the historic fight for suffrage. Tour highlights include the stories of several equal-rights crusaders who marched the Capitol halls as well as the state’s first female legislators. The tour will begin at the information desk in the Capitol’s State Street lobby. No registration is required. For additional information about the OGS Capitol tour program visit www.empirestateplaza.org, call (518) 474-2418, or follow @NYSCapitolVisit on Facebook and Twitter. |
