Roofers Recruit Apprentices

Rochester, NY (February 19, 2021) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) for the Roofing Industry of Rochester, Local Union #22 will conduct a recruitment from March 8, 2021 through February 4, 2022 for 40 Roofer apprentices, the New York State Labor Department of Labor announced today.

Applications must be obtained and submitted at JATC for the Roofing Industry of Rochester, Local Union #22, 280 Metro Park, Rochester, NY, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Due to COVID-19, if you wish to make an appointment, you must email jatc@rooferslocal22.com to request an appointment. 

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must attest in writing that they are physically capable of performing the work of the trade, which may include:
    • Repetitive heavy lifting, kneeling, squatting, and walking.
    • Climbing and working off ladders and scaffolds.
    • Working from high heights which may require wearing safety protective equipment.
    • Working in extreme temperatures and severe weather conditions including extreme cold and heat.
    • Working while wearing respirators.
  • Must sign a statement indicating that they are residents within the jurisdiction of JATC for the Roofing Industry of Rochester, Local Union #22. This includes the counties of Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Wayne, and Yates.
  • Must have reliable means of transportation to and from various job sites and required classes at the approved school.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the USA.
  • May be required to pass a drug screening, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
