Great New York State Fair Offers Free Admission to Older Adults on Senior Days

Free Fair admission and internal tram transportation for older adults on August 26, 27, and 28

The Great New York State Fair is once again offering free admission on Senior Days, Monday, August 26, Tuesday, August 27, and Wednesday, August 28, to all attendees 60 years of age and older. Identification showing date of birth may be requested to allow free admittance. Last year, Senior Days were expanded from two to three days, drawing almost 272,000 visitors.

“Senior Days at the State Fair give older adults and families a unique opportunity to spend time and have fun together,” said New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) Acting Director Greg Olsen. “Governor Cuomo and Fair Director Troy Waffner continue to recognize what a valuable asset our older population is, and their ongoing leadership in encouraging older New Yorkers to stay active and remain engaged by attending the Fair, free of charge, is a great opportunity for NYSOFA, other state agencies, and vendors to provide them with important information, resources, and a taste of all the great things New York has to offer.”

The New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) will have a booth located in the Science and Industry Building (Building 19) and agency staff will be available throughout the week of August 26 to answer questions and provide information and resource materials for older New Yorkers and their families.

There is a reception area for senior group bus and van parking; a special parking permit will be required. Fairgoers may contact 315-487-7711, ext. 1265 with questions or to pre-register for the permit. Older adults are also able to make use of the Fair’s internal tram network for free on these three special days, with the service running from 9 am to 8 pm. Trams travel around the perimeter road of the fairgrounds, with 9 scheduled stops.

The Fair is once again offering the New York State Citizen Preparedness Corps Training, a free disaster preparedness course that teaches attendees how to prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural and manmade disasters and emergencies. A free resource kit will be provided to participants. Two sessions will take place from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm on Monday and Tuesday, August 26 and 27. Registration for the training sessions are now underway online at the New York State Prepare website.

With exhibits, events, competitions, food, shopping, Midway rides, and other affordable attractions, the Great New York State Fair has something for everyone. Over one million people attend the Fair each year.
