Cement Masons Recruit Apprentices

North Tonawanda, NY (July 22, 2013) -- The Cement Masons Local Union #111 Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee will conduct a recruitment from August 1, 2013 through October 10, 2013 for 3-5 cement mason apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications must be obtained and submitted at the Local Union #111 office, 165 Division Street, North Tonawanda, NY from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on the following Thursdays during the recruitment period: August 1, August 8, August 15, August 22, September 5, September 12, September 19, September 26, October 3, and October 10.  All applications must be completed on site.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D).
  • Must live within the jurisdiction of Local Union #111, which includes Erie and Niagara counties.
  • Must have a valid NYS driver’s license (may be required to operate company-owned vehicles).
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and related instruction.
  • Must pass a substance abuse test, at the sponsor’s expense, after acceptance into the program.
  • Must provide military transfer or discharge form DD-214, if applicable.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
