These weekend service changes are part of Phase One of the NYC Subway Action Plan and on-going capital construction work on the MTA New York City Transit subway system.  NYC Transit’s Capital Rebuilding Program upgrades and maintains tracks, stations and signal infrastructure in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service.  For more information on the 2015-2019 Capital Program, click here.  

This weekend, work crews will be dispersed throughout the entire subway system to perform a variety of critical tasks in the areas of track replacement and maintenance, signal modernization, station enhancements, electrical upgrades and communication improvements.  All of this work is strictly aligned with Phase One of the NYC Subway Action Plan already in place and set to deliver improvements within one year.  Phase One will attack the key drivers of 79% of the major incidents causing delays in the system and focus on the critical components of the system that have the highest incidence of failure.

The Weekender is your guide to understanding planned service changes in effect for system maintenance and construction.  It makes it easy for subway riders to visualize exactly how weekend work will affect subway service.  Customers may visit www.mta.info and check out “The Weekender,” accessible by clicking the  “Weekender” tab located within the Service Status Menu.

The “Weekender for Mobile App” includes MTA Subway Time data and is available for iPhone in the Apple app store, and in the Google Play store for Android devices.  This free-to-download app shares the same features as the desktop version, including a subway diagram that displays the service to be provided each weekend, and all service changes.  Users can pinch or expand the map to multiple zoom levels, and tap to choose one of three ways to view service diversions: Service by Line, Service by Borough and Service by Station.

TripPlanner+ provides travel information that takes weekend service diversions into account.  In addition, customers can receive customized subway diversion e-mails delivered to their inbox by signing up for the E-mail Subscription Program by clicking here.   Customers who rely on these lines should allow for additional travel time.

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, uptown  trains run express from Times Sq-42 St to 72 St due to continuous welded rail and track replacement.

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23,  service will be suspended in Brooklyn due to Fix&Fortify Sandy Recovery Work in the Clark St Tunnel.  This project is part of MTA’s ongoing efforts to fix assets damaged during Sandy, and include repairs and rehabilitation of tracks, signals, pump rooms, fire protection system, and power and communication cables. 

• In Brooklyn,  service will operate local to Crown Hts-Utica Av to replace the . Free shuttle buses will run from Crown Hts-Utica Av to New Lots Av.   service will be extended to Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College to replace the .   and  trains will run local in Brooklyn.  Service will not be available at the Clark St and Hoyt St stations.  As an alternative, use the nearby Borough Hall and Nevins St  Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr for  trains for service to Manhattan.
• In Manhattan, downtown  trains will be rerouted.  trains will run between the Bronx and South Ferry, making local stops between 34 St-Penn Station and South Ferry.   service will run between Harlem-148 St and 14 St.  Service will not be available at the Park Place and Wall St stations.  Use the nearby Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Wall St  stations instead.
• A free out-of-system transfer is available between the South Ferry  and Bowling Green  Transfer between South Ferry  and  at South Ferry-Whitehall St.  Transfer at Times Sq-42 St for  trains to Brooklyn. 

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, downtown  trains run local from 96 St to Times Sq-42 St due to track maintenance. 

From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, October 21 to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, October 22, uptown  trains run express from 3 Av-149 St to E 180 St due to track maintenance.   

From 11:30 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23,  trains are suspended in both directions between Crown Hts-Utica Av and New Lots Av due to track replacement, switch work, and platform repairs.  Free shuttle buses make all station stops between Crown Hts-Utica Av and New Lots Av.  Transfer between  trains and shuttle buses at Crown Hts-Utica Av.  

From 5:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21 and from 5:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Sunday, October 22, Crown Hts-Utica Av-bound  trains skip 176 St,  Mt Eden Av, 170 St, 167 St, and 161 St due to track maintenance and track tie renewal.  Use a Woodlawn-bound  train to complete your trip.  Transfer at 149 St- Grand Concourse or Burnside Av. 

From 11:45 p.m. on Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23,  service will operate local to Crown Hts-Utica Av and  service is extended to Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College due to Fix&Fortify Sandy Recovery Work in the Clark St Tunnel.   trains will run local in Brooklyn to replace the .  A free out-of-system transfer is available between the South Ferry  and Bowling Green  stations.

From 3:45 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21, Flushing-Main St bound  trains run express from 74 St-Broadway to Mets-Willets Point due to track panel installation. 

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23,  trains are suspended in both directions between Inwood-207 St and 168 St due to communication improvements.   service will operate between 168 St in Manhattan and Far Rockaway/Lefferts Blvd in Queens.   trains make nearby stops between 168 St and 207 St.  Free shuttle buses provide alternate service and operate along two routes:

• On Broadway, between 168 St and Inwood-207 St, stopping at 175 St, 181 St, 190 St and Dyckman St.
• On Fort Washington Av, between 168 St and 190 St, stopping at 175 St and 181 St.

From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, October 21 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, Queens-bound  trains run local from Broadway Junction to Euclid Av due to track maintenance. 

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, uptown  trains run express from Canal St to 125 St due to signal improvements.

From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, October 21 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, downtown  trains run local from 125 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle due to track maintenance.   

From 6:30 a.m. to 12 midnight, Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22,  trains are suspended in both directions between 145 St and 168 St due to communication improvements.  Take the  instead.   service will operate between Euclid Av and 145 St.   trains will stop at 155 St and 163 St.  Transfer at 125 St or 145 St. 

At all times until Fall 2017, trains skip Prospect Av in both directions due to the MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.  Following an extensive overhaul of the Prospect Av station, customers will benefit from improved features like brighter, more comfortable platform environments, digital screens for real-time arrival information, informational dashboards, station art, electronics charging stations and new platform edges.  For service to/from this station use the nearby 4 Av-9 St  or 25 St  stations via the B37 and B63 local buses. 

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23,  trains are suspended in both directions between Norwood-205 St and Bedford Pk Blvd due to electrical improvements.  Free shuttle buses operate between Norwood-205 St and Bedford Pk Blvd.  Transfer between trains and buses at Bedford Pk Blvd.

From 11:45 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Friday, October 20 to Monday, October 23, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  trains run express from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 36 St, and  trains run express between 36 St and 59 St in Brooklyn due to Enhanced Station Initiative work.  Use a Manhattan-bound  local or  train to complete your trip. 

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, uptown  trains skip Spring St and 23 St due to signal improvements.    

At all times until early 2018, Manhattan-bound  trains skip Avenue U, Avenue P, Avenue N, Bay Pkwy and Avenue I due to station renewal work on the Culver Line .  When finished, more than 27,000 daily customers will benefit from repaired staircases, fare control areas, walls, floors, platform girders, new platform windscreens, rubbing boards, tactile warning strips, improved lighting and artwork. 

• For service to these stations, take a Manhattan-bound  train to Kings Hwy or 18 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound .
• For service from these stations, take a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  train to Kings Hwy or Avenue X and transfer to a Manhattan-bound .

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23,  service is suspended in both directions between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Church Av due to Enhanced Station Initiative work.  Free shuttle buses make all  line station stops between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Church Av.  Transfer between trains and free shuttle buses at Church Av. 

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, Jamaica-179 St bound  trains skip 14 St and 23 St due to signal improvements.     

At all times until Fall 2017, Manhattan-bound  trains skip 121 St and 104 St due to station rehabilitation work.

• For service to these stations, use the nearby 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd stations instead. Or, take the Manhattan-bound  to 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound .
• For service from these stations, use the nearby 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd stations instead. Or, take the Q56 bus and transfer to/from  service at nearby 111 St.

From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, October 21 to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, October 22,  trains are suspended in both directions between Crescent St and Jamaica Center due to station improvements.  Free shuttle buses make all  line station stops between Crescent St and 121 St, and connect with the  at Jamaica-Van Wyck.  

At all times until April 2018,  service is suspended in both directions between Myrtle Av and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs due to the Myrtle Viaduct Reconstruction project.   service will operate in two sections:

• Between Delancey-Essex St and Myrtle Av, and via the  to/from Broadway Junction, days/evenings.
• Between Metropolitan Av and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.
• Free shuttle buses operate between Myrtle Av (Broadway) and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.

At all times until Fall 2018, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, 20 Av, Kings Hwy, Avenue U and 86 St due to station rehabilitation work at nine stations on the Sea Beach Line.  When finished, this will yield a better travel experience for our customers including the installation of elevators at 8 Av and New Utrecht Av stations, providing our mobility impaired customers with better accessibility, upgraded communication systems, installation of Help Point intercoms, new stairways and handrails, reconstructed platforms and overpasses, repairs to canopies and columns, and artwork.

• For service to these stations, take the Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  to Bay Pkwy or Coney Island-Stillwell Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound .
• For service from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound  to Bay Pkwy or 8 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound .
• For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the .  Transfer between  and  trains at 36 St or Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, Astoria-Ditmars Blvd bound  trains skip 39 Av, 36 Av, Broadway, and 30 Av due to station enhancements.  Use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  or Whitehall St-bound  to complete your trip.    

At all times until Fall 2017  trains will skip the Prospect Av in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.  Following an extensive overhaul of the Prospect Av station, customers will benefit from improved features like brighter, more comfortable platform environments, digital screens for real-time arrival information, informational dashboards, station art, electronics charging stations, and new platform edges.  Use the 4 Av-9 St  or 25 St  stations via the B37 and B63 local buses.
