Harriman, NY (July 1, 2016) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Electricians, Local Union #363, will conduct a recruitment from August 1, 2016 through May 5, 2017 for 15 electrician apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications can be obtained and submitted, in person only, at Local Union #363, 67 Commerce Drive South, Harriman, NY, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from August 1^st  through August 5, 2016, and during the first full business week in November of 2016 (November 7 - 11), February of 2017 (February 6 – 10), and May of 2017 (May 1 - 5).

The Committee requires that applicants:

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must reside within the jurisdiction of Local Union #363, which includes the counties of Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, and Ulster (also includes parts of Delaware County* and Greene County**, see below).

*In Delaware County - The townships of Andes, Harpersfield, Kortright, Stamford, Bovina, Roxbury, and Middletown; also the portions of Colchester and Hancock townships south of the East Branch of the Delaware River.

**In Greene County - That portion of the county which lies south of a line beginning at the Hudson River and following the south limits of the City of Catskill to Highway 23A, along 23A to Route 2 (the road following the Little West Kill), and continuing west along this road to Delaware County.

• Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED), including one year of algebra with a passing grade.
• Must pass a physical, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.
• Must attest that they are physically able to perform the work of an electrician, which may include:
  • Climbing and working from ladders, scaffolds, poles, or towers of various heights.
  • Crawling and working in confined spaces such as attics and manholes.
  • Lifting heavy tools and materials.
  • Working in severe weather conditions and extreme temperatures.

• Must have a valid NYS driver’s license in order to operate company vehicles.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and related instruction classes.
• Must attend all related classroom training as required to complete this apprenticeship program.

• Must be able to distinguish colors.
• Must be able to read, hear, and understand verbal instructions and warnings given in English.
• Must provide a copy of his/her birth certificate and Social Security card after selection and prior to indenture.
• Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.
• Must receive a qualifying score on the NJATC/AIR aptitude test.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.
