NYS OFFICE OF GENERAL SERVICES COMMISSIONER JEANETTE MOY ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF RENEWABLE DIESEL ON STATE CONTRACTUse of Renewable Diesel Will Reduce Harmful Emissions From State’s Existing Combustion Engine Fleet as Conversion to Electric Vehicles Advances |

Renewable Diesel Available on State Contract in 26 Counties Through August 2026 NYS Office of General Services (OGS) Commissioner Jeanette Moy today announced the availability of renewable diesel to OGS contract users, making New York the first state in the Northeast to offer this greener alternative to fossil fuel-derived petroleum diesel on a statewide contract. “As New York continues its path toward fulfilling Governor Hochul’s mandate for a zero-emission fleet of medium- and heavy-duty state vehicles by 2040, renewable diesel provides an opportunity to immediately reduce the existing fleet’s tailpipe emissions,” Commissioner Moy said. “We are proud to be the first state in the Northeast to offer renewable diesel to the state agencies, authorities, schools, municipalities, and non-profits in New York State that are authorized to use OGS’s centralized contracts.” The state is making significant strides in meeting its commitment to transition to a light-duty, zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) fleet by 2035 and is currently working on developing conversion plans for its medium- and heavy-duty fleet. However, the existing market for ZEVs in the medium- and heavy-duty vehicle classes that meet the performance requirements of state agencies is more limited than the light-duty vehicle market. As the transition to ZEVs continues, having renewable diesel on contract allows New York to reduce emissions from the state’s existing petroleum diesel-fueled medium- and heavy-duty vehicle fleet. This is critically important as the transportation sector is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution in New York. Renewable diesel has many benefits. It is considered a drop-in fuel because it is processed to be chemically the same as petroleum diesel. This means that it is compatible with existing diesel infrastructure and tanks and can be blended with any amount of petroleum diesel. Renewable diesel also performs better than biodiesel in cold temperatures. OGS currently has two vendors on contract — Global Montello Group Corp. and Sprague Operating Resources LLC — that are providing renewable diesel at competitive pricing in 26 New York State counties. Prices will vary by county and the specific vendor providing the fuel. The contracts are in effect through August 20, 2026. OGS is making renewable diesel available in the Capital Region for its fleet and the fleets of other state agencies at the W. Averell Harriman State Office Building Campus in Albany. State contract users can visit https://ogs.ny.gov/Award-23343 to get more information on how to use the contract and the availability and pricing of renewable diesel in their region. |
