OFFICE OF GENERAL SERVICES ANNOUNCES LINEUP FOR NEW YORK STATE’S SUMMER STAGE IN HARLEM CONCERT SERIES

Free Thursday Evening Concerts on July 18 & 25 and August 1, 8, 15, & 22

NYS Office of General Services Commissioner Jeanette Moy today announced the lineup for New York State’s Summer Stage in Harlem 2024 series of free concerts presented by OGS and the Harlem Community Development Corporation.

The concerts take place between 5 and 7 p.m. on Thursdays at the Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. State Office Building at 163 West 125th Street in Harlem.

“We are excited to announce the lineup for this year’s Summer Stage in Harlem Concert Series,” Commissioner Moy said. “Harlem is home to an ever-flourishing arts and culture scene, and this annual free concert series event showcases a variety of performances for all to enjoy. I want to thank our partners at the Harlem Community Development Corporation and all our generous sponsors for supporting this summer’s amazing entertainment lineup.”

Empire State Development President, CEO, and Commissioner Hope Knight said, “Not only does the Summer Stage in Harlem Concert Series allow us to spotlight the unique and creative artistry New York has to offer, it also brings us together to celebrate Harlem’s rich cultural heritage. I’m thankful to both the New York State Office of General Services and the Harlem Community Development Corporation for presenting an event that will drive economic growth by increasing engagement with local businesses that serve as the foundation of Harlem’s thriving community.” 

July 18, An Evening of Rhythm and Blues

Featuring performances by Prest 4 Time and The Priceless Band.

Prest 4 Time performs a variety of musical genres, including classical soul, R&B, smooth jazz, reggae, and more.

The Priceless Band is a Motown band that performs all types of music from old school to new school and everything in between.

July 25, Gospel for the Soul

Featuring performances by Dante Hawkins and Jared Wayne Gladly.

Dante Hawkins is a singer whose music combines soulful, conscious social commentary with soothing and sagacious introspection. Refusing to confine his creativity, Dante challenges himself in several musical arenas, including hip-hop, R&B, neo-soul, pop, and gospel.

Jared Wayne Gladly is an actor, singer, host, and voiceover artist. A Texas native, his professional career began on the stage of New York’s historic Apollo Theater as an ensemble cast member of the 2009 national tour of Dreamgirls. Since then, he has starred in several Broadway, Off-Broadway and regional theater productions working under the direction of Bill T. Jones, Rueben Santiago-Hudson, Kenny Leon, Des McAnuff, Dominique Morisseau, Susan Stroman, and Patricia McGregor among others. 

August 1, Latin Night

Featuring performances by Frankie Martinez and Los Hacheros.

Frankie Martinez is one of the most innovative and progressive Latin dancers of his generation. He explores the Afro-Caribbean roots of performance art, as well as the choreographic possibilities native to Latin/Afro-Latin dance. In 2000, Frankie established the Abakuá Afro-Latin Dance Company, and together, they have performed and taught in over 50 cities and over 20 countries worldwide. 

Brooklyn’s Los Hacheros’ and salsa, and often combines them with Bomba, a fiery rhythm from the mountains of Puerto Rico.

August 8 & 15, Celebrating Summer in Harlem

August 8

Featuring performances by Dietrice A. Bolden and The Soapbox Presents.

Dietrice A. Bolden joined the Minisink Arts Academy, now IMPACT Repertory Theatre, to empower youth and give back to the community that raised her. She is currently the Managing Director and vocal instructor at IMPACT Repertory Theatre and a proud board member of HARLEM WEEK.

The Soapbox Presents is a platform, literally and figuratively, for Black and brown expression. Founded by Marija Abney in response to the murder of George Floyd, The Soapbox Presents creates a space to commune, resist, be rejuvenated, and revived to celebrate the brilliance of Black and brown people through the performing arts.

August 15

Featuring performances by JSWISS and Keith “The Captain” Gamble.

JSWISS is a hip-hop artist who takes a keen approach to crafting provoking content. A seasoned performer, JSWISS has been routinely backed by a live band of top-notch instrumentalists while gracing the notable stages of the Apollo Theater, Blue Note Jazz Club Nublu, The Jazz Standard, and Preservation Hall.

Singer/songwriter, guitarist, and harmonica player Keith “The Captain” Gamble’s heart and soul are rooted in the blues. He applies his many talents as a guest artist for the LaGuardia Community College lecture series on the Blues and as a guest instructor with Jazzmobile in Harlem.
