WILMINGTON, N.Y. --- Time is running out to register for the 37th annual Whiteface Mountain Uphill Foot Race, in Wilmington, N.Y. Athletes have until Thursday, Sept. 11, to sign up online, at https://www.runreg.com/3760, to be a part of Saturday’s, Sept. 13, race.

Presented by Santa’s Workshop, the uphill foot race will bring together hundreds of runners from the northeastern United States and Canada to Wilmington, all looking to conquer the eight-mile run up New York State’s fifth highest peak. The run begins at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start, from the base of the Whiteface Mountain’s Veterans’ Memorial Highway, and finishes at the mountain’s summit, more than 4,600 feet above sea level.

Aid stations will be available to assist each athlete climb the more than 3,500 feet in elevation, and once at the top broth, cookies, fresh fruit and drinks will be waiting to help each athlete recover as they enjoy the 360 degree autumn panoramic view of the Adirondacks, New England and even Montreal, Quebec, to the north.

The 37th annual race will also be fun for the whole family, as youngsters can participate in the 1.5-mile Kid’s Fun Race and everyone can take part in the 11th annual Festival of Colors.

The Whiteface Mountain Uphill Foot Race Kids’ Fun Run is a non-competitive run that begins at 8:15 a.m. and follows Santa from the start of the Highway to North Pole, Santa’s Workshop. All youngsters who participate in the fun run will receive a reindeer shoe finisher’s medal, admission into Santa’s Workshop and a buffet breakfast. The cost is $5 per child and children can register the morning of the race.

Following the uphill race, everyone is invited to take in all of the Festival of Colors activities before and after the awards ceremony. From 10 a.m.-5 p.m., the Town of Wilmington will celebrate the autumn season with a wide variety of free and family activities including games, face painting, arts and crafts, horse and pony rides, bake-offs and of course food and music. There will also be special guest appearances from Santa’s Workshop characters.

Awards will be presented to the top finishers in the men and women’s divisions, and junior (under 19) division. Awards will also be presented to the best finishing “King and Queen of the Hill,” which is given to the top man and woman, who compete in both the uphill run and bike race.
