Laborers Recruit Apprentices

Rochester, NY (February 26, 2014) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Laborers Local Union #435 will conduct a recruitment from March 6, 2014 through February 5, 2015 for 10 skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications can be completed, in person only, at Rochester Laborers Local Union #435, 20-22 Fourth St., Rochester, NY, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.  In July and January, applications may be completed on the second Thursday of the month due to holidays.  No applications are to leave the premises.  Detailed information is available on the Boilermakers Northeast JAC website: www.neaac.net.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.  Proof of age will be required after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D).  Proof will be required after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must attest that he/she is physically able to do the work of a skilled construction craft laborer, which may include consistently lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Must submit to and pass a non-DOT drug screening at the expense of the sponsor.
  • Must be legally able to work in the United States.
  • Must possess a valid NYS driver’s license in order to drive company vehicles.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites and related instruction.
  • Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
